3503 | Appears in 1910 Chicago census under parents August and Pauline Roepke. Otherwise, no trace. This is a mystery. The eldest August, Jr. was married and living with in-laws at the time. Census record states 9 children born to union of August and Pauline, with 7 children yet surviving. Actually, I count 10 born, with 8 surviving, but wilhelm born in 1888 does not appear anywhere after his birth, and Magdalena born in 1885 died 8 months later. Laverne Roepke Chaban mentions a Herman being born in the family around 1906 and died in 1963. | ROEPKE, August Jr. (I7)

3538 | At birth of her daughter (illegitimate in 1848 before marriage with August Elwart) Friedericke Albertine, there appears as sponsor Jacob Noetzel. Brother, perhaps? Also, half sister Charlotte Simson is sponsor. Fritjof Simson comments: Topic of crossed out name Simson vs Noetzel The pastor remembers Louise as eldest daughter of Wilhelm Simson because he behaved like a good father. But (in my opinion) he had never made a statement like August Elwart, that Louise should bear his name. Apparently the pastor then corrects the entry on request. The question of paternity on Louise Noetzel can not be answered. But i prefer the possibility, that Wilhelm isn't the father. Only for the reason that the Simson/Noetzel marriage is my personal dead end point. | NOETZEL, Louise Henrietta (I354)

3550 | August was born before Augusta was married to Joseph. Augusta Baumgard was born on March 9, 1838, at West Prussia, Germany. She married Joseph Kutschinski. They were the parents of four children: Carl, Ida, Bertha, and Augusta (or Ethel). Joseph passed away in 1880 leaving his widow with the children all under ten years of age. Ida came to this country at an early age to work for a relative. Later she went to Primghar, Iowa. There she married Henry Wittrock where they lived for a time. They lived at Canistota, South Dakota, for most of their married life. They were the parents of seven children. Ida passed away on June 3, 1952, at age 73. Carl came to the United States and Crawford County in the year 1893. He worked for several years making it possible for his mother and two younger sisters, Bertha and Augusta, to join him in Hanover Township near Charter Oak. Carl married Louise Jahn on February 15, 1900. They had seven children. Carl passed away on December 8, 1968. Bertha married August Greene in April, 1895. They farmed in Hanover Township, Section 22. Later they moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where August was a street car conductor and an elevator operator. Two sons were born to them. One died at age four and the other died at age 21. Bertha passed away on September 3, 1965, at age 91. They are buried in the Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Augusta worked as a helper in homes but decided she liked the city, so went to Minneapolis, Minnesota. There she met and married W. H. Couch, a harness salesman. They also lived in Michigan, in Chicago, Illinois, for many years, and later in Tampa, Florida. Augusta died in 1960 at the age of 84. She is buried at Tampa, Florida. Augusta made her home with her daughter, Bertha Greene. She passed away in Sioux City on March 8, 1918, at the age of 80. She is buried in the family plot at St. John's Cemetery near Charter Oak, Iowa. (Taken from "The History of Charter Oak, Iowa"). | Kutschinski, Joseph (I7387)
