- Thelma Grace Kutschinski was born the daughter of John and Ida Burkett Goodall. December 13, 1911 in Mapleton. lowa. She died June 21. 1990 at the Imrnanuel Fantenelle Home in Ornaha, Nebraska at the age of 70 years. Thelma grew up in the Mapleton area where she received her education and graduated from the Mapleton High School. After graduation. she moved to Sioux City. Iowa where she worked for a number of years at Woolworths. She then moved to Chicago and worked there for a while before returning to Sioux City. On December B. 1939, Thelma was united in marriage to Elmer Kutschinski at St. John's parsonage in Charter Oak by Rev. Schrader. After their marriage. they returned to Elmer's family farm in Charter Oak Township where they made their home and were together blessed with the birth of four children. With her family. she occupied much of her spare time as a 4-H leader. and enjoyed square dancing. Additionally. she was a member of: St. John's Ladies Aid. Willow Modern Homemakers, Clubetts of Charter Oak, and the 500 Club. She was instrumental in starting the Senior Center in Charter Oak. and was their first president. After retiring from farming in 1973, Thelma and Elmer continued living on the farm until 197B when they moved to Charter Oak. In recent years. they have enjoyed bus tours to California. Florida. Washington D. C., and a Mississippi River boat ride. Throughout her life, she was a loving wife. and a devoted mother. In 1989, Thelma and Elmer were blessed with the privilege of celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary. She was preceded in death by her parents: one son, Gail, as a child: and two brothers Lyle and Kenneth. Survivors include: her husband Elmer: three daughters: Frances Mills of Omaha. Nebraska: Sandra Kelley and her husband Michael of Omaha, Nebraska: and Roxann Cleaver and her husband John of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Also surviving are three grandchildren: one brother Maurice Goodall of Hamilton, Montana: and two sisters, Phaebe Rose and Genevive Goodall, both of Mapleton, lowa.

Elmer Kutschinski was born on June 13, 1910, to Carl and Louise (Jahn) Kutschinski on the farm two and one-half miles northwest of Charter Oak. Elmer had three brothers: Ernest, dying in infancy; Arthur, who died in 1967; and Alvin; and three sisters: Erna, Mrs. William Friedrichs; Olinda, Mrs. William Schultz; and Irene, Mrs. Francis Lee. Elmer married Thelma Goodall of Mapleton on December 8, 1939. To this union were born three daughters: Frances Mills of Omaha, Nebraska, Sandra Kelley of Omaha, Nebraska, and Roxann Cleaver of Fort Col- lins, Colorado; and one son, Gail (died in 1962 at the age of 14). Elmer and Thelma also have three grandchildren: Robert Armstrong, Christine Kelley, and Kevin Kelley. Elmer and Thelma lived and farmed the Kutschinski farm until June 30, 1978, when Elmer retired and they moved to 662 South 6th Street, Charter Oak. Elmer and Thelma are members of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Senior Center. Thelma is also a member of the Clubettes and Willow Modern Home Makers. Their evenings are spent playing cards, board games, and making popcorn. Thelma passed away on June 21, 1990, at Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Burial was at Craw- ford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. (Taken from "The History of Charter Oak, Iowa").

JOHN GOODALL MAPLETON, Iowa Special: Funeral services for John Good- all, 84, Mapleton who died Thursday at a Cherokee hospital, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Methodist Church. The Rev. W. Leonard Rowse will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Mr. Goodall was born Dec. 18, 1880, at Dracott, England, and came to this country and the Mapleton community in the spring of 1882 with his parents. He married Ida Burkett on March 27, 1907, at Soldier, Iowa. Mr. Goodall was a member of the Anthon Methodist Church and the Modern Woodmen of America, and was a past school board director of Pleasant Hill School District at Mapleton. Survivors include three daughters, Miss Genevieve Goodall of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Elmer Kutschinski of Charter Oak, Iowa, and Mrs. Leroy Rose of Mapleton; two sons, Maurice of Missoula, Mont., and Kenneth of Mapleton; four sisters, Mrs Wesley Martindale of Mapleton Mrs. Annie Goodall of Denison Iowa, Mrs. Francis Woodard of South Orange, N.J., and Mrs. Nellie Bray of Mapleton, Iowa 19 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
