    Alvin and Dorothy Kutschinski have lived on the corner of First and Pine (103 Pine Avenue), since the 1940's, having moved here from Denison. Alvin is a native of Charter Oak, having been born on the family farm northwest of town. His parents were Carl Henry Kutschinski, who was born in West Prussia and came to Charter Oak in 1891, and Louise Fredericka (Jahn) Kutschinski, born in Hanover Township. Dorothy was born in East Boyer Township to Gustave Waldimer Wiese, born in Clinton County and Wilhelmina Louisa (Stahl) Wiese, born in Bonnigheim, Wurttemburg, in southern Germany. Alvin received his education in the rural schools and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran School at Charter Oak. He served 42 months in the European Theatre during World War II. After returning home, he worked as a mechanic for Butler Motors, Harbaugh Repair, and Kortman Implement Store. He also worked with Friedrichs Construction and Midwestern College before becoming a custodian at St. John's Lutheran Church. Dorothy received her early education in the rural schools of Crawford County and graduated from the Denison High School. She began teaching in the rural schools and continuing her education, earning a Bache- lor of Arts and Master of Teaching Degree from Morningside College. She taught in the Ute Public School and Charter Oak-Ute Community School, completing 48 years in the teaching field. The Kutschinski's have two daughters, Karen and Linda. They attended and graduated from the public school in Charter Oak. Karen married Norman D. Christensen of Denison and they have farmed all their married life on their own farm south of Denison. Norman's parents are Harry and Gertrude (Rath) Christensen. Karen and Norman have two sons, Greg and Scot. Both boys earned degrees from Iowa State University at Ames. Greg also earned a Master of Business Ad- ministration from the University of Iowa. Scot entered his eternal home as a result of a motorcycle accident north of Ames, shortly before his 25th birthday. Greg is married to Diane Fisher of Wellman, Iowa. Linda attended and graduated from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion and became a teacher. She married Allen Nepper of Ute, who also graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Juris Doctor degree. His parents are Warren O. and Helene (Zeims) Nepper. Linda and Allen live in Charter Oak with their two daughters, Allison and Megan, who are students at Charter Oak-Ute Schools. Allen is a practicing attorney and Linda teaches in the local high school The Kutschinski's are active members of St. John's Lutheran Church. Alvin was baptized and confirmed here, as were their two daughters. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Denison. Alvin has served his church as voting member, elder, stewardship secretary, chairman of finance board, Bethel Series cordinator, Bible Class superintendent for more than 30 years, and custodian. Dorothy has been a Bible Class teacher for more than 30 years at adult and high school levels, also studied and taught the Bethel series. Alvin and Dorothy are active in local and county organizations. Al has been a member of the Charter Oak Commercial Club for many years, as well as the V. F. W. and American Legion. He was a member of the Happiness Express, SPEBSQSA Denison Chapter since 1966, participating in many shows and contests. Both are life members of the Crawford County Historical Society. They are active in the Republican Party. Dorothy has also served as board member and officer of the Crawford County Arts Association, Republican Central Committee, Republican Women, American Association of University Women, and Delta Kappa Gamma, International. She also holds membership in other state and national organizations. Al and Dorothy are strong supporters of Charter Oak. Al served on the town council and as mayor.
