Substantiated through the Hamburg Passenger Lists with his brother Christian (Fred) and his brother's wife Justine. Assumed to have been born in Podewils, which was his last place of residence when he immigrated to Quebec around 1859.
Died:
Originally stated that he died by falling out of a window on a construction site in Chicago. Upon further investigation, this claim was proved false. He died in the Veteran's home in Michigan. Parents were listed as John Gutknecht and Fredrica Bass.
