Anna P. Marten
Anna P. Marten was born on February 6, 1885, in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of, Carl and Bertha Krause Jahn. She died early Thursday morning, May 3, 1984, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 99.
Anna spent her formative years on a family farm near Charter Oak. She was baptized as an infant and later during the years of her education at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township, she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On December 18, 1914, Anna was united in marriage to Ben Marten in Charter Oak. Together they made their first home on a farm near Charter Oak. Several years later they moved into the Charter Oak community where Mr. Marten was employed for many years. After his death in 1961, Anna moved to Colorado. Subsequently she returned to Charter Oak. In 1967, she entered Eventide Lutheran Home due to failing heath.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ben, Anna was preceded in death by one son, Paul, in January of this year and by nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include one son, Reynold of Denison; one daughter, Frances, Mrs. Martin Jessen of Woodland Park, Colorado; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great- great-granddaughter. Also surviving is one brother, Ben Jahn, of Sioux City, and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Rabe of Denison.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 5, 1984, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery near Charter Oak. The Vicar Bruce Laabs officated at the services. Mrs. Paul Glausen served as organist with St. John's Choir singing "I'm But A Stranger Here". The congregation sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus".
Serving as pallbearers were Terry Marten, Larry Jessen, Jack Bierwirth, Elmer Kutchinski, Edgar Glocksien, and William Jeschke.
