At that time Bertha and Ethel came also. Ida and August came to the U.S. before Carl even. She had a half brother Carl Klaus. Ida worked for a Vogt in the 3rd house south of the Lutheran Church in C.O.. Bertha married A. Greene - lived on a farm east of C.O. (Boehn Farm) - Augusta lived with them and when they moved to Sioux City she moved with them. Ethel worked for Carl Klaus-(her uncle?) in Ute Augusta Baumgard was born on March 9, 1838, at West Prussia, Germany. She married Joseph Kutschinski. They were the parents of four children: Carl, Ida, Bertha, and Augusta (or Ethel). Joseph passed away in 1880 leaving his widow with the children all under ten years of age. Ida came to this country at an early age to work for a relative. Later she went to Primghar, Iowa. There she married Henry Wittrock where they lived for a time. They lived at Canistota, South Dakota, for most of their married life. They were the parents of seven children. Ida passed away on June 3, 1952, at age 73. Carl came to the United States and Crawford County in the year 1893. He worked for several years making it possible for his mother and two younger sisters, Bertha and Augusta, to join him in Hanover Township near Charter Oak. Carl married Louise Jahn on February 15, 1900. They had seven children. Carl passed away on December 8, 1968. Bertha married August Greene in April, 1895. They farmed in Hanover Township, Section 22. Later they moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where August was a street car conductor and an elevator operator. Two sons were born to them. One died at age four and the other died at age 21. Bertha passed away on September 3, 1965, at age 91. They are buried in the Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Augusta worked as a helper in homes but decided she liked the city, so went to Minneapolis, Minnesota. There she met and married W. H. Couch, a harness salesman. They also lived in Michigan, in Chicago, Illinois, for many years, and later in Tampa, Florida. Augusta died in 1960 at the age of 84. She is buried at Tampa, Florida. Augusta made her home with her daughter, Bertha Greene. She passed away in Sioux City on March 8, 1918, at the age of 80.
